Answers to Questions Submitted to Officer Rogers

Answers from Officer Rogers are in italics.

1. Can anything be done about the speeding on West Ridge? It is dangerous to walk along the side of the road and hard to avoid being hit.

We are requesting that speed pads be placed on West Ridge, and because this road is difficult to conduct traffic enforcement. We will have to study the results to see the best location on West Ridge for enforcement. Example: location to set up radar, enough clearance to enter roadway after a violator safely, and once the violator is stopped, not becoming a traffic hazard.

2. Are cars legally allowed to park along the street on Peakwood? Many cars are parked in front of houses and not in driveways - it is unsafe.

From the 3200 - 3400 of Peakwood, there should be no parking. To do so in this area, would to be parked in the roadway / traffic lane. Starting in the 3500 and up, there is constructed curbing for parking and the road width would support this , giving clearance for vehicles to pass by safely.

3. Can anything be done about the loud music booming from cars that drive around South Roanoke?

Under Article VII, Sec. 21-207, 1(b) of the City Code. When the sound source is located within a motor vehicle in or upon public right-of-way or public property and the sound can be heard more than fifty (50) feet from its source.

This is a Class 2 Misdemeanor, which means for enforcement, the officer has to observe / hear the violation his / her self to take action.

4. We would like a weekly report on criminal incidents that have occurred in South Roanoke. Is this available?
